Andy Duan (段晔) is a Program Director in the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) at the National Science Foundation (NSF) and a Professor in the School of Computing at Clemson University. At NSF/CISE, he is part of the Robust Intelligence program at the Division of Information and Intelligent Systems (IIS) which supports computational research in artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, human language technologies, and computational neuroscience. Between 2022 and 2023, He was a Professor and Department Chair of the Department of Computer Science at Michigan Technological University. Prior to that, he was a faculty member in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of Missouri (MU), where he also served as the Director of the Cognitive Internet of Things (CIoT) for Intelligent Communities – Industry Supported Consortium (ISC), and the Director of the Center for Urban Safety. Additionally, He was a core faculty member of the MU Institute of Data Science and Informatics, an affiliated faculty of the MU Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, and an Associate Member of the Washington University Siteman Cancer Center. His research interests include computer vision, computer graphics, machine learning, and biomedical imaging. He has received funding from NSF, NIH, DoD, DoE, DoED, AFRL, ARL, NGA, Honeywell, Bosch, Nikon, etc. He holds a Ph.D degree and an M.S. degree in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He holds a M.S. degree in Mathematics from Utah State University and a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Peking University.
